This exterior door handle pad is a rubber pad made to fit just like the original door handle pad. It gets installed between the exterior door handle and the door.

The exterior door handle pad is made to protect your door paint from getting scratched from metal to metal contact. Over the years your exterior door pad will wear and need to get replaced to keep your paint protected.
